Directions For Use
Dragging a Non-antlered Deer
If you have harvested a non-antlered deer, or one you are not going to have mounted, simply cut an incision between the tendon and the bone of each hind leg slightly above the joint taking care not to cut through the tendon. Insert one metal hook of The Hooker Deer Drag™ through each leg incision. Grasp the handles and place one in each hand. Make sure the hook end is facing up and simply drag the deer as you walk. You can drag the deer walking either forward or backward. If you are hunting with a buddy, you can each take one handle and walk together dragging the deer in tandem.
If you have accidentally cut the tendon, you can use the straps around each one of the back legs as you would with an antler. Follow the directions in Dragging an Antlered Deer substituting the leg for the base of the main beam of the antler.
Dragging an Antlered Deer
If you have harvested an antlered deer, to drag the animal in a manner that will allow for the least amount of damage to the cape, simply wrap one of the enclosed nylon straps around the base of the main beam of the antler on the right and the other strap around the base of the main beam of the antler on the left.
To secure the straps, hold the strap around the right side of the main beam’s base with one end of the strap in each hand. Slip the end of the strap in your left hand through the loop of the strap in your right hand. Grab the end you have slipped through the loop and pull to cinch tightly. Repeat this step on the left antler.
Place the looped end of the strap on the right antler over one of the metal hooks. Do this with the left strap on the other metal hook.
Grasp the handles of The Hooker Deer Drag™ and place one in each hand. Make sure the hook end is facing up and simply drag the deer as you walk. You can drag the deer walking either forward or backward. If you are hunting with a buddy, you can each take one handle and walk together dragging the deer in tandem.
Loading into a Truck Bed
Note: It is recommended to remove the truck’s tailgate prior to attempting to load your harvested deer.
Insert the hooks into the hind legs (following the directions for Dragging a Non-antlered Deer). Drag the deer to rear bumper then place the hooks against the bumper of the truck with the handles upright. Climb in truck bed then grasp the handles and pull upward while walking backward and pulling the deer up and back into the truck. Another tug or two should have the deer inside the bed.
